01

Start with guidance, not the form

Service-Public.fr explains responsibility, eligibility, evidence, cost and timing before linking to the authority’s online service. FranceConnect is not a single government account: it passes a verified identity to a participating service. Tax, Ameli, pensions, CAF, France Travail and ANEF still keep separate case files, messages and decisions.

02

FranceConnect and FranceConnect+

FranceConnect lets users select an eligible named account on the sign-in screen instead of creating another password for each authority. FranceConnect+ adds stronger identity verification for certain sensitive procedures, including some financial transactions or access to medical records. The identity provider and final authority remain separate: successful login does not mean that an application has been accepted.

03

Choose the correct personal area

Tax is handled on impots.gouv.fr, health cover through Ameli, family benefits through CAF or MSA, employment through France Travail and many residence procedures through ANEF. The same address change may need to be reported to several bodies. Read each account’s receipt instead of assuming that one declaration automatically updates every administration.

04

Prepare reliable evidence

Collect identity, address, civil-status, income, employment or residence evidence required for the procedure. Upload complete, readable scans in the correct orientation, with all corners visible and clear filenames. Check the permitted date, size and format. Keep originals, the evidence list, case number, submission receipt and a copy of every message.

05

A technical error is not a decision

Capture the screen with the address, date, time and error message; try an updated browser without creating duplicate accounts or cases. Then use the support route shown by the service and include the procedure number. An outage does not necessarily stop a legal deadline: if time is short, identify the official fallback channel and retain proof of the failed attempt.

06

Avoid fake sites and phishing

A sponsored result, a Marianne logo or a similar name does not prove that a service is public. Check the domain, publisher, stated fee and return address before sharing card details, passport or residence documents. An authority will not ask for a FranceConnect password by telephone. When unsure, restart from Service-Public.fr or a saved official address.

07

Help without a device or with accessibility needs

Online delivery does not remove the need for human support. France Services advisers can help users understand and complete many procedures, while the responsible authority alone makes the decision. Keep control of credentials and sign out after assistance. Accessibility statements and official contact routes should identify alternatives when an online service cannot be used.

08

Checklist before submission

Confirm the competent authority, identity used, relevant period, evidence list and official price. Review pre-filled fields, download the receipt, note the announced response time and monitor the internal mailbox rather than email alone. For a deadline-driven procedure, recheck the official guidance on submission day; an old screenshot or paid intermediary does not replace the current rule.

FRA9 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is FranceConnect one government account?

No. It passes a verified identity; each authority retains its own case file and decision.

When is FranceConnect+ needed?

For certain sensitive procedures that require a more strongly verified digital identity.

Does one address change update every file?

Not always. Check the receipt and reporting duty for each body.

What if the site fails before a deadline?

Keep dated evidence, contact official support and immediately identify the stated fallback channel.

Where is human help available?

France Services supports many procedures without replacing the authority that makes the decision.
