key points: Christmas in Paris · Official sources · Checked 18 October 2026

01

Start with one evening, not a checklist

For a first visit, pair a light walk with a booked meal in the same area. La Défense, the department stores around Boulevard Haussmann and Disneyland are not three neighbouring stops. Choose the experience that matters most, then check the actual journey from your accommodation. The comparison separates announced 2026 dates from programmes still awaiting details.

02

What is announced, and what is not

Disneyland and the La Défense organiser publish definite seasonal periods. The tourism office also gives the start of the Champs-Élysées lights. Its Haussmann and Place Vendôme entries still await details. An annual tradition is not proof of a 2026 timetable: do not build a non-refundable trip around a date carried over from an old article.

03

A market visit and a paid attraction are different purchases

At La Défense, the traditional market and Le Sommet finish on different dates. An ice rink, attraction or restaurant reservation may have its own charge and slot: a market setting does not make every activity free. Compare the journey, meal and chosen activity as one plan. For other markets, wait for a specific 2026 organiser page before treating exact dates as confirmed.

04

Make a light walk enjoyable

Keep the route short with young children and plan an indoor break. Window displays can be viewed from the street; entering a store depends on its hours and capacity. A photograph taken in a crowd says little about walking distance or stairs. Check rain, station access and your return journey before leaving. Do not rely on a café or toilet being open without checking it.

05

Disney is a separate day from central Paris

The official seasonal period is in the comparison. Choose the date, park coverage and ticket category before comparing costs. There is no universal price here: the chosen product and availability matter. Include the transfer and a return that suits the children’s energy; do not promise a full Disney day followed by a grand tour of the markets.

06

On 25 December, check each venue separately

Christmas Day is not an ordinary opening day for museums, restaurants or shops. Lights in a street do not prove that the next building is open. Use the organiser’s holiday exceptions linked in the comparison, then check every other venue individually. For a meal, confirm the menu, deposit, cancellation terms and children’s arrangements directly with the restaurant.

07

Choose for your group

With a pushchair, choose one area and a route with suitable access. For a lower-budget evening, a walk is easier to control than a chain of attractions. With teenagers, choose one booked activity rather than several queues. Friends should share an exact meeting point and reservation slot. These are planning choices, not guarantees of comfort or empty streets.

08

Connect Christmas to the rest of your stay

The Paris three- and five-day itineraries, Disneyland guide and transport guides remain the reference pages for a complete stay. For an Alsace trip, use our France Christmas market comparison and the Strasbourg and Colmar guides. A long rail journey deserves a proper stage in the trip: Paris, Strasbourg and Colmar are not one evening stroll.

FRA9 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When does Christmas in Paris begin?

There is no single opening day: Disney, markets and street lights follow separate calendars. Use the comparison rather than assuming everything begins together.

Is everything open on Christmas Day?

No. Check each museum, restaurant and activity. A Christmas season announcement alone does not confirm an individual venue’s 25 December hours.

Can we combine Disney and the markets in one day?

It is not our suggested first family visit. Keep Disney as a separate day and use a short evening in one Paris area for lights or a market.

Why are some dates still missing?

We do not have sufficiently specific 2026 confirmation to publish them. A clearly pending entry is more useful than an old date presented as new.
