01

What ‘best’ actually means

There is no single ranking. Shanghai mainly reflects research; subject tables, graduate outcomes, selectivity and campus experience answer other questions. Compare the exact degree, teaching language, lab, total cost and admission route.

03

Bachelor: Parcoursup, DAP or Études en France

First-year bachelor admission may use Parcoursup, a preliminary admission request or Études en France depending on prior diploma, nationality and residence. L2/L3, BUT, engineering and selective programmes may use another portal; the official programme page decides.

04

Master, grande école and PhD

Mon Master covers many national M1 programmes, while Études en France and institution-specific degrees may use another route. Grandes écoles, MBA, MSc, double degrees and doctorates often retain their own file, exam, interview or laboratory contact.

05

Academic and language requirements

Prerequisites, grades, ranking, portfolio, experience, tests and interviews vary by programme. B2 French is common and C1 may apply to writing-heavy study; English tracks may ask for IELTS or TOEFL. Only the certificate named by the programme is safe.

06

International application file

Prepare passport, diplomas, full transcripts, required translations, CV, targeted statement, language proof and references only when requested. Connect prior learning to the programme; check format, file size, deadline and time zone, then save the receipt.

07

Fees, funding and real cost

National fees, differentiated fees, exemptions and private tuition differ. Add CVEC where applicable, housing, deposit, insurance, transport and living costs. Check CampusBourses, Erasmus+, embassy, regional, foundation and institutional funding without assuming admission includes finance.

08

After admission

Academic admission does not guarantee final enrolment or a visa. Meet deposit, registration and arrival deadlines; use Campus France and France-Visas when required. Reject intermediaries promising guaranteed admission or visas.

FRA9 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is France’s best university?

Paris-Saclay, PSL and Sorbonne are major research references, but the right choice depends on subject, degree, language, budget and selection.

Do all international students use Campus France?

No. The route depends on residence, level and programme; Études en France may sit alongside Parcoursup, Mon Master or the institution portal.

Is B2 French enough?

Often, but some programmes require C1 or a named test. The official degree page prevails.
